Human-animal conflict awareness held at Piphema

Dimapur, July 2 (MExN): A Human Animal (Wildlife) Conflict Mitigation Awareness Campaign, sponsored by MoEF & CC, GoI, New Delhi, was organised at the Council Hall of Piphema Village A, Dimapur district on June 30 by the Forest Department, Nagaland, with participation of around 150 people from district administration, forest department, chairmen/members of village councils of villages affected with human-animal conflict.  

L. Kire, Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change addressing as chief guest lamented that there has been drastic decrease in population of wild animal due to increased human population and destruction of habitats of wild animals.  

“The provisions of Article 371 (A) of the constitution should be considered as an instrument rather than a difficulty for development of a village,” he stated while citing example of the resolution passed by all the village councils of Mokokchung district on the day of observation of the world Environment Day 2017 (June 5, 2017) in Mokokchung for conservation of flora and fauna.  

Satya Prakash Tripathi, Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland, in his keynote address, highlighted the policies of the State Government and the MoEF & CC, GoI, New Delhi for addressing the human animal conflict. He appealed to the people for protection of forest and wildlife and contact forest officials immediately in case of damage of their crop/ properties/ human life. He also made PowerPoint presentation on the status of community reserves in the state of Nagaland.  

PowerPoint presentation on different aspects of human-animal conflict was presented by Meyipokyim, IFS, APCCF (Territorial), Beizo Suokhrie, DFO, Longleng and Obed Sumi, ACF, Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar.  

Meanwhile, Vikhweno Merhatsu, ADC, Medziphema stated in her speech that conservation of forest and wildlife is the need of the hour.
