Tizit, November 17 (MExN): Chairman of Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC), Justice Songkhupchung Serto, along with Member Adv R Nzanbemo Lotha, conducted a visit to Tizit on November 17 and held an awareness programme with officials from various government departments and stakeholders.
The programme was held at the conference hall of the ADC’s Office, Tizit and was chaired by ADC Tizit, Relise Sangtam, stated a DIPR report.
Briefing the gathering on the formation of the Commission, Justice Serto stated that the body is empowered as a Civil Court and that its justice deliberation process is simple and free of cost.
Highlighting cases taken up by the Commission, he said that when basic rights such as health, education, and food are adequately provided, people are in a much better position.
Stating that the primary duty of the State is to protect and provide for its people, Justice Serto said the that “the Human Rights Commission steps in when the State fails to do or violates their rights.”
Recalling the origins of human rights, he said the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations is regarded as the most important document after the Bible, and noted that India was among its first signatories.
Member of the Commission, Adv R Nzanbemo Lotha, also briefed the gathering about the panel and the purpose of their visit.
During the visit, the team interacted with officials from various departments and representatives of different organisations.
The Chairman and the Member also inspected the Community Health Centre, Government Higher Secondary School, and the Police Station in Tizit.
