‘ICD Project could alleviate the bottlenecks of lack of capital’

DIMAPUR, JUNE 8 (MExN): The office of the ‘Project Implementing Team’ of Integrated Co-operative Development Project (ICDP) for Dimapur district was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 8. Nagaland State Co-operative Bank Ltd is the ‘Project Implementation Agency’ (PIA) of the ICDP. 

MLA and Advisor Cooperation & Sericulture Azheto Zhimomi was the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur was the guest of honour.  “Coinciding with the ‘Year of entrepreneurs’ as declared by Nagaland state government, I am pleased that even though there was some interval in the implementation of the Integrated Co-operative Development Project, finally, the government of Nagaland have once again approved for its implementation,” said Zhimomi in his address. 

Zhimomi expressed hope that with proper implementation of the project, it could alleviate the bottlenecks of lack of capital and truly benefit the enterprising societies. “It is my hope and desire that genuine and prospective beneficiaries would be able to avail this project.” Congratulating the newly appointed team of the ICDP and the management of the NSCB, Zhimomi further urged them to give their sincere effort for the successful implementation of the project.   

The DC said that a place like Nagaland is in a way best suited for cottage industries, as such, banked hoped on the ICDP that it will have fruitful result. He further appealed upon the beneficiary societies to make good investment of the money loaned under the project. It must be the objective of the ‘co-operative societies’ to utilise the money judiciously, the DC averred.   

M. Imtila. Jamir, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Nagaland in the keynote address informed that the project period is for five years and will focus on agricultural activities and its allied sectors like horticulture, fisheries, irrigation etc. 

National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) which funds the ICDP through the state governments, the Registrar said Rs 17,66,00,000 (17 crore and 66 lakh) has already been sanctioned for the state. It was first implemented in Nagaland in the late eighties.  

The NCDC funds the ICD projects under two heads: loan and subsidy. The loan component which comprises 70% of the sanctioned amount is for creation of infrastructural facilities like while the subsidy comprising 30% of the total project cost is for project implementation. Registrar Jamir said it is a one-time assistance and is for societies who have the potential.
