‘Identify issues of common interest and participate in democracy’

Therie encourages women on IWD

Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): On the occasion of International Women’s Day, NPCC President K Therie has called on the women of Nagaland to strengthen their participation in the democracy and take up common issues for a better Nagaland.

In a press release on Sunday, the party President noted that the theme for 2021 has been declared to raise ‘Women Leadership for an Equal Future,’ which aims to foster partnerships in the process of making decision. Stating that it has been a 110 years since the world began celebrating International Women’s Day, he stated that, “It is high time we come to realise the virtues and endeavour for better order.”

“...To achieve the objective of the year, there is need to reach Nagaland’s women with education on the concepts of democratic governing,” he stated while emphasising on the need to take women towards an era of independent thinking. “To achieve these goals women should mobilise the 50% of women voters that are already enlisted in the Electoral Roll.

The easiest way to mobilise is to agree with the common issues that are confronting and impacting society,” he said, while adding that democracy is neither personal nor customary law, but for the welfare of the people, community and for public interest.

He also stated his observation that women in Nagaland tend to avoid public meetings and stay away from participating in discussions. On this, he opined that, “As long as women do not identify issues of common interest and come out to participate in the political parties and consciously vote in the process of election, they will be continue to be left behind although it is unintended.”

“Politics is to facilitate, comfort and administrate... Good politics is minus ego, arrogance and selfishness and I find these virtues are mostly natural with women,” he stated while greeting the women of Nagaland and encouraging them to, “rise and take up the common issues for a better Nagaland.”
