Kohima, November 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) organised a seminar and interaction programme on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, on November 14.

With Prof Shalabh, the Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Kanpur, as the resource person, the seminar focused on the role of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in developing scientific temper, encouraging science education, and promoting STEM education in the State.

The National Education Policy 2020 envisions an education system centered on inquiry-based, discovery-based, and activity-based learning approaches, the NBSE stated in a press release.

A total of around 611 students from 7 schools participated in the first session, while 351 students from 6 schools joined the second session of the seminar. The participants were Class XI science students from Higher Secondary Schools in Dimapur district, studying the science stream.

In his lecture, Prof Shalabh focused on empowering young minds to shape their future and highlighted the importance of STEM education in today’s fast-paced world, full of challenges. He also spoke about the role of IITs across the country in developing scientific temper among students.

Prof Shalabh urged the students to develop the spirit of inquiry, experimentation, and self-awareness, noting that today’s world cannot progress without scientific knowledge and a scientific temperament.

In both sessions, the students actively interacted with a variety of questions on different areas and topics, added the release.
