Mon, February 28 (DIPR): A team of district administration and government officers led by Deputy Commissioner, Mon along with the NGOs of the district headed by the President Konyak Union (KU) visited Hota Hoti, Namthai, Upper and Lower Tiru and Wapnyu village on February 27. The team interacted with the people regarding establishment of administrative headquarter at Tiru valley and Special Development Zone in the foothill areas of Naginimora, Tiru and Tizit. The team also visited the coal mining areas at Tiru and Naginimora.
The team was shock observing at the mining areas. The mining areas have turn to heap of hillock by the excavated earth and the mining holes turn to ponds filled with dark acid water emitting foul smell. The mining has not only destroyed the charming beauty of the nature but it is threatening the life of humans including plants and animals for survival because the completely mining areas are polluted.
Interacting with the people DC, Mon Angau I Thou, IAS emphasized on imparting quality education in the schools and urged the people to focus on quality education and move forward for all round development. Citing that the world has become competitive, she said without quality education the people would continue to remain in the same situation without development.
Stressing on the need of administrative headquarter to develop the area and Special Development Zone to explore the potentiality of the rich land for various purpose for the benefit of the people, she called upon the people to desist from random illegal coal mining in the region. The DC said that it has negative impact on the lives and environment which would result in obstacle to the proposed administrative headquarter and special development zone.
Konyak Union President Manlip appealed to the people to stop random coal mining in the area and pave way for the proposed administrative headquarter and Special Development Zone initiated by the Government for the development of the people. While appreciating the Government for initiating Special Development Zone, he appealed to the people to abstain from obstruction to development, but extend cooperation and support to the government for any development works. Regarding foothill road, he urged the people to cooperation with the department concern to enable the government to expedite the work and complete it at the earliest.
He informed the people that random excavation of coal have damaged the rich land and would affect the future generation if immediate measures are not adopted in hand, and said if it continue all living things including plants would be extinct and the rich land would turn to deserted land. He also informed the people that coal mining would be encourage on condition that it is done scientifically without creating hazardous to life and environment.
The was comprised of DC and President KU, ADC Naginimora, SDO Civil (Sadar) Mon, DFO (Forest) Mon, SDEO (Education) Mon & Tizit, BDO Wakching, DPRO Mon, team fro KNSK and KSU. The team also visited the proposed administrative headquarter site, Shingphan wildlife sanctuary, roads and inspected the areas from Naginimora to Tizit via Tiru.
