Imchen calls for public cooperation

Mon, June 5 (DIPR): Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen has called upon the NGOs, civil societies, and the general mass to extend absolute cooperation to the Police and the administration in eliminating the anti-social elements who resort to extortions and serving of demand note in the name of ‘National Workers’ in the state. He was speaking at the inaugural function of the new SP Office building, Mon, on Thursday, June 4.

Expressing alarm that extortion in various parts of the state was a big dimension which is affecting the social and economic life of the people, the Home Minister expressed that the police alone cannot control all situations without the strong support of the civil societies, NGOs and the public.

Referring to the age-old Naga political issue, Imchen said that the DAN government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is extending all support to resolve the Naga political issue adding that Naga nationalism is the number one agenda of the DAN government, and further appealed for a stop in fratricidal killing among the Nagas. The Minister also said that the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has assured the Chief Minister to resolve the Naga political issue during the present tenure. This shows the Centre’s concern towards the Naga issue, he added.

Referring to liberal system of Indian Law, the Home Minister said that an accused apprehended by the police after much struggle is bailed out by the judicial the very next day making the effort of the police worthless and creating general frustration in the police department; and urged the judicial not to bail out accused booked under different laws.

The Minister also expressed appreciation for the noble effort of the DGP Nagaland who has toured the district Headquarter to enhance peace and tranquillity in the state. He also appealed to right-thinking citizens and the officers to work for one dream with one vision, renewing the determination and strengthening friendship for a common cause.

Expressing gratitude for maintaining good coordination between the Police, administration, Military and the NGOs in the district, the DGP Nagaland, Kire, IPS, called for keeping up of the same team spirit in the future. Assuring to look into the grievances of the police department, the DGP appealed to the police officers and the jawans to feel proud of the new office building and at the same time to improve the quality of working system of the department like the new building for better aspect in the future. He also urged them to constantly keep in touch with the NGOs and the general public while maintaining law and order in the district.

Citing that “long distance between Mon to the capital, Kohima, does not mean that Mon district is neglected”, Kire said that he is constantly in touch with all the district SPs daily twice a day to ensure peace and security to the people.

In his short speech, Deputy Commissioner for Mon, Dinesh Kumar, IAS, expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries present and informed that the Police, administration, Paramilitary and the NGOs had good coordination. He stressed on extension of the new building with conference hall, a good number of vehicles and other infrastructure for the police to enforce law and order smoothly.

Khoiwang, the president of the Konyak Union, also requested the Minister and the DGP to issue vehicles in good condition and provide good communication facilities to the police officers for timely intervention in hard times.
Earlier, SP Mon, Limasunep Jamir, IPS, proposed the welcome address while the Pastor of PBC Mon pronounced the invocation. Other highlights of the function included a presentation, special number by the Youth department of PBC Mon, and brief report on the new SP office building by the Er. Kehuto, EEPEP. The program, chaired by the DIG (MOD), T Sangtam, IPS, was attended by the IGP (R) of NAP, the DIG (R) Mokokchung, district officers and NGOs.
