Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): School Education & TE Minister Imkong Imchen while expressing ‘gratefulness’ to the Naga Students Federation (NSF) for “reminding me of my responsibility to uphold justice” has expressed regret over the recent JEE selection debacle and informed that he has withdrawn the order allotting two seats to “my son and his school friend”. The “regret” from the Minister comes following the NSF issuing an ultimatum to the minister that clarification/necessary action in regard to the JEE fiasco be made on or before August 25.
“I am indeed grateful to all rank and files of the NSF for reminding me of my responsibility to uphold justice. The NSF has been playing a very important role in our society. I convey my regret that my decision with regards to the allotment of the two additional MBBS seats to my son and his school friend” stated a letter addressed to NSF President Pushikha Aomi. The Minister informed the NSF that the seat allotment order has been withdrawn and the two merit-list students who were deprived of their berths have been given their due and have taken admission. “In view of this I request the NSF and all concerned to reconsider your decision” the Minister appealed.
Meanwhile, the NSF at its Presidential Council meeting held August 19, where the JEE-MBBS imbroglio was taken up, felt not to press the issue further since the Minister has written an official letter to the Federation admitting his action and appealing for reconsideration of the ultimatum served earlier. “The August House deliberated at length over the current JEE-MBBS imbroglio and came to a conclusion that since the Minister concerned has written an official letter to the Federation, admitting his mistakes, also requesting the Federation to reconsider its decision, the House felt it not to press the issue further” stated a response from the NSF. The House, while warning that if such ‘mistakes’ are committed in the near future the federation shall take its own course of action, also felt that NSF officials should also be included in the JEE selection process in future.
