IMD puts Nagaland, NE States on ‘orange alert’

Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday designated most North-East States on “orange” (Be prepared) alert, forecasting widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall during the next few days.

In an update issued on Sunday afternoon, the IMD’s Regional Met Centre Guwahati informed that “Heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hrs) to Very Heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hrs) Rainfall is very likely over Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng districts,” between 8:30 AM of August 6 to 8:30 AM, August 7.

From August 7-8,  it further predicted, “Heavy (7-11 cm in 24 hrs) to Very Heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hrs) Rainfall is very likely over Peren, Kohima and Phek districts.”

Of the three met centres in NE, except for Arunachal Pradesh, all had ‘orange’ alert from August 6-8. 

Meanwhile, the IMD evening update informed that, “Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur during next 5 days.”
