Dimapur, December 30 (MExN): Taking strong exception to the news item under the heading, ‘State Cong argue case for PR’ and ‘Cong roots for President Rule’ appearing in the December 30th issues of The Morung Express and the Nagaland Post respectively, Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Nagaland Progressive Alliance (NPA) I. Imkong described it as “fabricated and concocted report”.
While pointing out that these “bogus reports are uncalled for” and flatly denying any such communication to anybody by them as members of the Congress Legislature Party or the NPA, Imkong however stated that on enquiry, this ‘document’ emanated from no other than from the Chief Minister’s office as per the fax received. “I want the Chief Minister, Mr. Neiphiu Rio to come out clear as to how he has the audacity to come out with such cheap propaganda. This kind of propaganda to mislead the people is tantamount to creating division among different groups of people and this is a dangerous omen for the future of the people of Nagaland under Mr. Rio’s administration. This kind of dangerous propaganda can be compared only to that of Hitler’s”, Imkong stated while adding that the people of Nagaland must be given an explanation by the chief minister and unless he does it, the Congress will hold him responsible for such false allegation.
Imkong made it amply clear to the Government of India, to the Governor of Nagaland and to the people of the State that at no point of time, Congress party or Nagaland Progressive Alliance have demanded President’s Rule in the State and clarified that all their representations to the President of India, the Prime Minister of India, Chairperson UPA and Congress President and other Central leaders have demanded only the dismissal of the illegal DAN Government which was voted out on December 13th, 2007. “Time and again, we have made known to the people that we have come to Delhi to seek justice”.
Imkong also clarified that at no point of time have they raised any issue about the undergrounds be it the NSCN (IM), NSCN (K) or any other group nor the Ceasefire Ground Rules nor the ambush on Dr S.C. Jamir, the Governor of Goa in connection with the dismissal of the DAN Government. “We have not brought to the notice of anybody any points other than the illegality of the continuation of the DAN Government after they were voted out in the Assembly by 31 to 24 (including Speaker) in an effective House of 55, the other 5 Hon’ble Members belonging to NPF and BJP having resigned few months earlier”, the CLP and NPA leader stated.
