MOKOKCHUNG, DECEMBER 5 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) today said that there is an increasing rate of juvenile delinquency in the town, and termed this is a matter of serious concern.
A press note from the MCCI informed that on December 5, a teenager committed a grab-and-run crime, wherein the accused walked into a mobile phone store and snatched away a Rs 20,000 worth mobile phone. “When the salesman showed him the phone as requested, he snatched the phone from the salesman and ran away. The salesman chased the culprit while also alarming the people around. The culprit was chased down after about 100 metres and overpowered by the salesman and some alarmed passers-by. He was then handed over to the police for further necessary action,” the MCCI informed. The MCCI noted with concern that similar crimes have been committed in the town at least times over the recent past. “In all of these instances, it was juveniles brazenly stealing glitzy smart phones in broad daylight,” it said.
This situation, the MCCI said, “warrants the attention of all parents, authorities concerned and civil society.” It further called upon the chamber’s members to be “more vigilant.” Meanwhile, the MCCI warned that “anybody caught engaging in any form of crime against the business community in Mokokchung shall be dealt with severely and unsympathetically from now on.”
