Wokha, August 6 (MExN): Induction training for Urban Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) under National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was organised at Chief Medical Officer’s conference hall Wokha from August 1 to 5. 

During the induction training programme, Dr Zubenthung Kikon, Chief Medical Officer Wokha welcomed the resource persons and urban ASHAs to the training. He encouraged the ASHAs to be well trained so that they will be able to provide proper health services as community health workers at their respective colonies.

The resource persons for the induction training were Chubala Pongen, State ASHA Nodal Officer, Department of Health and Family Welfare Nagaland and Supong, Urban Consultant Kohima. During the five day training, sessions on activities of ASHA, pregnancy diagnosis, birth preparedness, examination of new born at birth, breastfeeding, common childhood problems, immunization, managing asphyxia, diagnosing neonatal sepsis, evaluation of ASHAs, referral etc were taken by the resource persons. 

The ASHAs were also given practical demonstration on how to weigh a baby using weighing scale and usage of thermometer during home based new born care visit. 

On the fourth day of the training, an interactive session was held in the presence of Dr Nyanthung Kikon, State Nodal Officer NUHM. During the interactive session, issues and challenges faced by the ASHAs were discussed and suggestions on way forward were presented by Dr Kikon. A total of 26 Urban ASHAs, 6 Block ASHA Coordinators, NUHM Consultant and District Community Mobilizer attended the training.
