Nagaland’s Minister Health & Family Welfare Imkong L Imchen today formally launched Intensified Mission Indradhanush here for the state of Nagaland.
In an formal launching programme here at Urban Primary Health Centre, Seikhazou, Kohima, the Minister highlighted the importance of immunization, and described Intensified Mission Indradhanush as one of the most comprehensive programmes which was launched nationwide on October 8.
However, he said, October 8 was a Sunday, and Nagaland being a Christian state decided to launch it today. He said the IMI was initiated by the central government with the objective of safeguarding and preventing preventable diseases at an early age through immunization.
Immunization is the most effective and cheapest means of treatment as the cost of treatment becomes too expensive after a person has already been inflicted due to non-immunization at young age, he added. He also refuted on the report carried out on immunization in respect of Nagaland.
He urged media house and all stakeholders to work in close association with each other in order to sensitize, and create awareness in both urban and rural areas with special emphasis on rural and remote areas.
Health & Family Welfare Principal Secretary Menukhol John said the department has been giving its concerted efforts in order to get children fully immunized.
At the district level, the officer in-charge in the rank of Joint Director is personally monitoring the activities of the programme besides intensified head counting of expected mother, he added.
