Seventy-six adult learners who completed a three-month Adult Literacy Campaign were felicitated at a programme held at Pangti Community Hall under RD Sanis Block on September 22.
There is no age limit to learning, said Deputy Commissioner Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao, who attended the event as the special guest and encouraged the learners to continue their education.
He urged them to regularly revise what they had learnt and make it a habit to learn something new every day.
Emphasising the importance of sharing knowledge, DC Tsanglao further encouraged the learners to help family members and others who were unable to read and write.
He also called upon husbands to support their wives in pursuing education and stressed the need to ensure that daughters receive education.
The DC noted that even basic literacy skills could make a difference in everyday life, citing the ability to write one's name and remember a mobile phone number as simple but useful examples. He encouraged the learners to put their newly acquired skills into practice.
Meanwhile, Senior Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) Nchumbemo Jami maintained that the campaign had surpassed expectations, with some participants who could not initially write their own names now able to write and sign independently.
The three-month night school focused on basic literacy, including writing names, recognising and writing numbers, and learning mobile phone numbers.
The learners were also appreciated for their enthusiasm and regular attendance throughout the programme.
The felicitation programme was organised by Samyan Federation, Sanis Block, and Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) under PRI-CBO Convergence, in collaboration with the Wokha District Administration, Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti (BBBP), and Department of Education.
