Tuli, May 11 (MExN): The five days intensive training on bamboo basketry and bags jointly organized by the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) culminated at Aitlenden Community Hall, Tuli on May 10, 2013, informed Dr Tolto Metha, NBDA member.
Altogether 20 female trainees from six villages under the Tuli Mat Cluster participated under the certified UNIDO trainer, Anwar Hussain on basketry and bamboo bags. UNIDO also selected four of the most outstanding craftsmen under the Tuli Mat Cluster to participate in the ‘Skill Exchange Programme’ which will be held in June in New Delhi. The UNIDO Intervention mainly focuses on value addition attributes, it informed.
It may be added that the Tuli Mat Cluster produces 3000 numbers of mats per month and supplies to companies outside the state. The NBDA and UNIDO have been working together for the last one and half years to promote Bamboo and taking the industry to a new level of enterprise. The press note also informed that some machines and hand-tools along with certificates were distributed to the trainees at the programme. The programme was attended by Khrienuo C. Metha, Team Leader, NBDA, Manjula Bhushan, Coordinator, UNIDO, Neilezo Tep, SDO (Civil) Tuli, Team Members and officials of both NBDA and UNIDO along with representatives from the villages under the Tuli Mat Cluster.
