The 1st edition of Kohima Inter Badminton Club Tournament under the aegis of Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA) commenced here today at Indoor Stadium, Officers’ Hill (Thegabakha).
Gracing the inaugural ceremony as the special guest, Kesonyii Yhome, commissioner & secretary to the Government of Nagaland and president Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) encouraged different badminton clubs and associations to promote the youngsters in their respective jurisdiction.
He acknowledged the various clubs and associations for taking the lead and also assured of the NBA’s commitment to promote badminton in the state.
“This tournament is a landmark event organised for the first time by KDBA, said KDBA vice president (Administration) Kezhalezo Solo adding that the tournament aims to foster unity, friendship and better understanding among the different badminton clubs of Kohima.
“It is a celebration of skill, sportsmanship and community spirit,” he added.
With players ranging from seasoned athletes to promising newcomers, the tournament promises thrilling rallies, strategic game play and plenty of memorable moments on the court.
The competition is organised in a knock-out format, leading up to intense semi- finals and a grand finale where the champions of each category will be crowned.
The tournament, which will continue till April 26, features Men’s Doubles- 75+, Men’s Doubles- 85th +, Men’s Doubles-95+, Men’s Dobles-105&, Men’s Doubles Open and Women’s Doubles.
The prize money for each men’s category stands at Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 6000 for champion and runner- up respectively.
The champion in women’s doubles category will fetch a cash prize of Rs. 8000 while runner-up will receive Rs. 4000.
14 Clubs, which have registered for this tournament, includes Dawn Club, Tribal Feathers Club, Sunrise Club (Thegabakha), Capital Shuttlers Club, Crescent Club, Sane Feathers Club, Beits Club, No Mercy Club, Sunrise Club (NLA), Evening Club, Pfuchatsumia Club, Feathered Club T. Khel, Shuttlers Club D. Khel and Head Hunters Club.
The inaugural ceremony was chaired by KDBA Vice President (Administration) Kekhrie Pfukha while Rev. Fr. Megorieko Thomas, Asst. Parish Priest, St. Mary’s Cathedral Kohima invoked God’s blessings.
Welcome address was delivered by KDBA president Kovi Meyase.
The grand finale will take place at 4:00 PM on April 26. Teiso Metha, SP, Kohima will be the guest of honour.
