
DIMAPUR, JULY 17 (MExN): The first Inter-College Champions Trophy 2023 organised by Dimapur District Cricket Association and Chumoukedima Cricket Association under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association, saw wins for Dimapur Government College, Salt Christian College and a tie between JN Aier College and St Joseph University.
At Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Government College walked past Unity College with a comfortable 6 wickets win to secure their first win of the Tournament.
Having won the toss, Dimapur Government College elected to field and restricted Unity College for 78 runs for 9 wickets in 15 overs in a rain affected match. Pankaj Das (18 runs), Md Shakir Ahmed (13 runs) and Sumit Basak (13 runs) were the only notable scorers for Unity College after Saurav ran havoc with the ball for 4 wickets which was ably supported by Chandemo Odyuo and Avoy Dey with 2 wickets each.
Dimapur Government College had a shaky start as their opener was dismissed in the very first delivery of the innings and their second batsman in the third delivery. However, they were able to chase down the target in 11.1 overs losing 4 wickets. Alok Sharma (56 runs not out) displayed classy batting skills as Dimapur Government College achieved their target with ease.
Man of the Match was awarded to Alok Sharma of Dimapur Government College for his 56* runs knock.
In the 2nd match of the day at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Salt Christian College won the toss and chose to field bundled out Tetso College for 56 runs in 16.5 overs. None of the batsmen could score a double figure as the wickets fell at regular intervals. For Salt Christian College, Raj Babu Prasad took 4 wickets while Dip Borah and Sahail took 2 wickets each.
In the run chase, Salt Christian College was able to achieve the target in just 10.1 overs losing 2 wickets with Dip Borah scoring 25* runs and Raj Babu Prasad 15* runs.
For Tetso, Apong Konyak took 2 wickets.
Man of the Match was awarded to Raj Babu Prasad for his 4 wickets and 15* runs knock.
At Sovima Cricket Ground, the match between JN Aier College and St. Joseph University ended in a tie.
JN Aier College having won the toss elected to bat first in the rain shortened game. The match which was supposed to be of 25 overs was shortened to 15 overs. JN Aier College managed to put up on a formidable 112 runs losing 8 wickets in their allotted 15 overs. Vitoka top scored with 32 runs and Robin contributed 28 runs. For St. Joseph University, Kitiki A Zhimo was the pick of the bowlers finishing with a figure of 2/22 in 3 overs.
In the run chase, St Joseph University got off to a good start. But once the fall of the opener Kabel who contributed 22 runs, they kept losing their wickets at regular intervals. Sulanthung (20 runs) and Kitiki (19 runs) tried to steer their team to the finish line in the middle but couldn't find support whatsoever from the other end.
Eventually they could only level the score and ended at 112 all out in 15 overs resulting in a tie. For JN Aier College, Vitoka Aye took 3/15 ( 3 overs ) and was also named the man of the match for his all-round contribution with both bat and ball.
The second match which was played between Public College of Commerce and NIT Nagaland was abandoned after only one innings due to rain and bad outfield by the Match Umpires. Both teams walked off with 1 point each.
