Introductory training on participatory land use planning

Morung Express News Kohima | August 22   An introductory training on the participatory land use planning was held on August 22 at de Oriental Grand jointly organised by United Nation Development Program (UNDP) and Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland.  

In his welcome address, Peter K. Rengma, Director & NPD, Department of Soil and Water Conservation highlighted the importance of the concerned departments’ contribution to planning in land use with focus on sustainable land development with regard to shifting cultivation in the context of Nagaland.  

The facilitator for the session was Dr. Andras Darabant, Documentation Specialist, UNDP (International Consultant), while the moderator was Anushree Battacharjee, Research Associate, UNDP. The participants at the training were introduced to the concept of Participatory Land Use Planning (PULP), principles, processes and practice of PULP.  

Dr. Darabant stated that the main purpose of the training was to provide the required knowledge to the high level officers of Agri and allied departments, and to enable them to provide guidance to their subordinate and staffs. The training also aims to reach the objectives of PULP in Nagaland, enable the trainees to gain an overarching understanding of the objectives, principles and processes of PULP.  

The participants expressed expectations to learn about the trans-disciplinary integration of local knowledge, responsibility of the departments on PULP. The participants, who comprised of officials from Agri and allied departments, were engaged in discussion and presentations on analysis of land use option and facilitation of land use design during the meeting.
