‘Inventory of Agriculture Kohima district’ book released

Parliamentary secretary for housing Er. Levi Rengma formally released a book entitled “Inventory of Agriculture Kohima district” on April 5 last during the awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Crop Insurance Scheme) held at Tseminyu Town Hall.  

This publication was brought out by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tesophenyu, Kohima.   Dr. V. Akashe Zhimomi, programme coordinator KVK, Tesophenyu, Kohima stated that Kohima district inventory of agriculture 2015 is being prepared to provide information to all stakeholders of agri and allied sectors, as the agricultural operations are still traditional in the district.

  “Non adoption of scientific technologies in the field condition remain a major hindrance of the district,” he stated in the preface of the publication.  

He stated that the farming community need to adopt/introduce new technology that is available in Research Institutions, Universities as well as state owned laboratories and farms. However, many farmers as well as even extension personnel have limited knowledge which are available in the district. Moreover, they are unaware of various schemes/projects of state government and Government of India to assists and improve agricultural economy.  

“To overcome the traditional way of agriculture, this publication of information complied with a vision to attract young minds and progressive farmers to let them move forward with modern technologies in the district,” Zhimomi stated.  

This district inventory on agriculture contains important institutions, research and centres that is accessible within and outside the district in the states which are provided with detail address and contact information.  

He thanked Director, ICAR- ATARI, Zone III, Umiam, Barapani, Director of Agriculture, Nagaland for the constant support in enabling the KVK to bring out this publication.
