PEREN, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): Jalukie Town which was under the administration of SDO (Civil) has been upgraded to an ADC Hq.
Jalukie Town was set up in the year 1966 in the land donated by Old Jalukie Village which was under Peren sub-division then. On July 17, 1991, Jalukie EAC Hq was upgraded to that of SDO (Civil), which was graced by Vamuzo, the then Chief Minister of Nagaland. TR Zeliang was also an MLA in Vamuzo’s ministry representing 6 Tening A/C at the time.
According to a press release issued by Media Cell CMO, Chief Minister TR Zeliang who graced the occasion as chief guest at GHSS public ground, Jalukie stated that, “Jalukie Valley has achieved a mile stone and that the long cherished dream has turned into reality.”
Maintaining that this achievement would usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for Jalukie, the fastest growing township in Nagaland with tremendous increase in population, the chief minister said that ‘the up-gradation was done for strengthening the administrative system and is most deserving.’
“Because of its strategic location, population expansion has taken place and likewise human requirements have also increased,” he said. While pointing out that greater task and challenges are ahead to transform the future of the upgraded township, the chief minister urged upon the people to jointly co-operate with the government on all fronts to see the reality while adding, “It is always the collective efforts that yielded good dividends.”
He also impressed the gathering to utilise the rich and fertile soil of Jalukie and preserve its reputed name as the heart of the ‘Rice Bowl of Nagaland’. Its produce can be even exported to the rest of Nagaland and beyond, he added. Highlighting some major road projects in the State which would be touching parts of Peren District, the chief minister cited the case of Maram-Peren-Dimapur Road via Jalukie which has been declared as NH 129 A; Maibang-Tamenlong Road via Peren-Tening-Tamei for which survey & DPR preparation is underway, Foothill Road (Nagaland Express Highway) starting from Tizit to Khelma which will cover the entire length of the State will pass through Jalukie.
While lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for earmarking Rs 90,000 crore for development of roads in the North East which the Prime Minister had announced some days back in Meghalaya, the chief minister confided that Nagaland would also get a substantial amount from these funds.
“In the last 5 decades, no Prime Minister of India has done this and this is a first of its kind,” he said. Citing past instances where major projects were stalled because of problems created by landowners, he stated that “development cannot take place unless people are willing to create a congenial atmosphere.”
“I appeal to all the people, especially the landowners to cooperate with the implementing Agency in the interest of the general public,” he added.
Meanwhile, the chief minister impressed the gathering not to misused technologies as it can be harmful if not properly channelized.
Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion include Home Minister, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Minister for Geology & Mining & Border Affairs, P. Longon, Minister for Horticulture, DB & GB, Kejong Chang and DC Peren, Smita Sarangi.
