The Jaintia Amalgamated and Redressal Forum (JARF) will be convening a public meeting on Saturday to discuss the ban on coal mining activities in Meghalaya which has been imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The JARF which is a conglomeration of NGOs, farmers, truck drivers, labourers, former MLAs and MDCs has called this meeting due to the concern that it feels over the impact that this ban has had on the livelihood of the people of Jaintia Hills.

“This ban has severely affected the people since its imposition in 2014 and we urge these people who have been affected by it to come and attend this meeting which will be held at Tuber-Shohshrieh village under East Jaintia Hills district,” JARF Secretary, LS Rymbai said today.

He also informed that advocates and other leaders of Jaintia Hills will be present during the meeting and will shed some light on the MMDR Act and other matters related to the coal trade.
