Jawans charge 6th NAP Tizit Commdt. of corruption

Dimapur June 15(MExN): In the backdrop of shortage of food supplies in the district areas of Mon, the Commandant of 6th NAP at Tizit has been accused of a range of illegal practices and corruption in regard to administration as well as in handling rations and other amenities meant for the entire Battalion leaving them “starving and disoriented”. The commandant is accused of taking for his personal use about 100 bags of rice from the ration of the 6th NAP in 2004 which ate into the rations.

It was also charged that when NAP posts were created in the battalion, he “rejected” recommendations for impartial selection system from the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police. Instead, the commandant allegedly selected candidates who paid him Rs.60, 000. “With this money he has already finished two pucca buildings at Dimapur and (another) is about to be completed at Tuensang” the personnel charged. Relatively, in 2005 he is said to have drawn Rs 21, 67,000 from the State Bank of India which is said to belong to the battalion and then misused the said amount.

The Commandant is also accused of misusing his position for personal interests. It is charged that “right after he joined as the Commandant of 6th NAP, 32 employees were kept at his disposal for private use” because of which “Tesang Nala, Teitong Nala and Ukha posts which are vulnerable areas are without check posts”. The Commandant is also said to be “never on time” in the office thus creating inconveniences to public visitors. Because of his incompetence and corrupt practices, jawans under him cannot perform their duties well, it was alleged. Maintaining that all these allegations are “just a fraction of all his follies and misconduct” the personnel called for a concerted endeavor to replace him as commandant for the betterment of the 6th NAP Battalion, it was stated.
