JEE fiasco: Students submit ultimatum to CM

Dimapur, August 1 (MExN): Reacting to the inaction of the government regarding the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) issue, an annoyed Highway Area Students Union has submitted a representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland demanding that Education Minister Imchen Imkong be immediately removed from the Council of Ministers and that he tender an unconditional apology to Niuto S Chishi, a JEE merit-candidate who was deprived of an MBBS seat. The ultimatum demanded that the government accede to the demands on or before August 4.

It may be mentioned that Chishi, ranked 27th on JEE merit-list was deprived of his MBBS seat when Minister Imchen allegedly allotted the slot to his own son. His son did not make the JEE list. The HASSU out-rightly termed the act of the Minister as “unconstitutional and anti-student, anti-people.”

The HASSU ultimatum, also demanded that the two other JEE candidates, Sungtikumba L Imchen, ranked 464th and Akhovi Pase, ranked 627th be recalled and their nominations be cancelled. The ultimatum was signed by HASSU president Hukugha Tuccu, General Secretary Viboli Ayemi and Education & Statistical Secretary Himato Yeptho.
