IMPHAL | January 22
Normal healthcare service at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, one of the two biggest state run hospitals was disturbed on Wednesday after the doctors suspended their duties of the day to stage a protest inside the hospital campus.
The doctors staged the protest in front of the administrative block of the institute, demanding immediate removal of their director Dr Thongam Bhimo.
The office of the director was also disturbed by the protesting around one hundred doctors.
The doctors staged the protest under the aegis of the Assistant Professor Senior Residents Associate Professors (APSRA) Committee after taking mass casual leave for the day.
Among other issues, the doctors are protesting against “hurried” appointment to fill up vacant posts of some assistant professors.
They alleged that the interview of the recruitment of the assistant professors was held on the same day of issuance of notification for filling up vacant posts. The results of the same were also declared on the same day
“Remove corrupted director,” general secretary Dr Bikram Aditya of APSRA demanded while accusing the director of being sidelining the interest and welfare of the servicing doctors of the institute.
He said that the doctors serving in the biggest state run hospital after RIMS hospital which is a Central institute have been suffering a lot due to director’s negligence.
He said that since January 2018, 25 seats of assistant professors are lying vacant in JNIMS whereas there are around 35 post graduate completed students of the institute.
The doctors of the institute have been pressing the state government and concerned authorities to give the post graduate completed students of the institute the opportunity while filling up the vacant posts as like done in other institutes.
“We think that it was due to the inefficient director who never thinks for the welfare of the doctors of the institute was behind the non-fulfilment our demands,” he said.
