Maligaon, August 18 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed track-linking work connecting Jogighopa Railway Station yard with the Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) GCT siding in Assam, a development expected to facilitate direct freight train access to the logistics park.

According to NFR, the Non-Interlocking (NI) work has been completed, enabling freight trains to and from the MMLP to access the national railway network. The connectivity includes links from Lines 1 and 2 of Jogighopa station towards the MMLP GCT siding.

Located along the Brahmaputra River, the Jogighopa MMLP is the first such facility in Assam and integrates road, rail, air and waterways for movement of goods, NFR said.

The railway connectivity is expected to improve freight movement and supply-chain efficiency and enhance the logistics park’s role as a hub connecting the Northeast with markets across India and neighbouring countries, including Bhutan.

The MMLP has facilities including warehouses, railway siding, cold storage, customs clearance house, yard facilities, workshops, petrol pumps and truck parking, informed a press release from the NFR.

The enhanced rail connectivity is expected to benefit the trade, industry and logistics sectors by improving freight efficiency and supporting regional economic growth, it said.

The facility could strengthen the NE’s potential as a gateway for international trade and regional connectivity, it added.
