Joint Inspection Team evaluates MIDH projects in Nagaland

Kohima, June 25 (MExN): A Joint Inspection Team (JIT) visited Nagaland from June 20-22 to get firsthand knowledge and to evaluate the progress of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) projects which are sanctioned for three years (2014-15 to 2016-17).  

The JIT comprising of the Chief Consultant for MIDH Dr. RC Upadhyaya, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, New Delhi, representatives from ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Center Dr. Azeze Seyie and Arvind Kumar of the Central Institute of Horticulture, Medzhiphema visited and evaluated the physical progress of different project based activities in two districts (Kohima and Dimapur) of the State.  

Dr. I. Moa Walling, Horticulture Deputy Director & Nodal Officer for JIT informed that during the three days, the JIT visited Rural Market & Naturally Ventilated Tubular Structure for Orchid at Old Showuba, Tissue Culture Laboratory for Banana & Orchids and Mushroom Development Center at the State Horticulture Nursery, Pineapple Farms in Molvum, a Pack House at Kiruphema, a Processing & Retail Market (Integrated) at Zubza, two Naturally Ventilated Tubular Structures for Lilium and Chrysanthemum at Kohima village, vegetable cultivation at Kidema, Retail Market at Jakhama, and vegetable cultivation & Accredited Nursery (Plum) at Khuzama.  

The JIT while visiting the different projects interacted with the beneficiaries and enquired if any difficulties were faced while implementing the MIDH projects, the release said.  

On June 21, the JIT had an Interface Interaction with the Horticulture Department officials which was led by N. Amos Ao, Joint Director & HoD while Alan Gonmei (IAS), Secretary for Horticulture was the Chairman. During the interface, the JIT apprised the officials of the physical verification of the projects implemented by the department in the two districts and certain suggestions and recommendations were deliberated for further improvement of the MIDH programme in the State.  

The release mentioned that Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) is a centrally sponsored programme that is being implemented in the State by the Horticulture Department. Specific crops based on its geographical location have been targeted for its cultivation so that production and productivity of that crop is achieved at par with national level. Various inputs and components accompanied by technical know-how are made available to the beneficiaries depending on the adaptability of the crop in different locations, it added.
