Joseph Sumi shines at All India Hyd Masters Badminton league

Joseph Sumi, a prolific badminton player from Nagaland, who was bought by the Hyderabad Smashers in an auction, helped his team win the first edition of All India Hyderabad Masters Badminton League held at Hyderabad recently.  

Joseph is a Police Inspector in Nagaland Police. He won 15 times state singles and doubles champion.  

The lefty player, partnering with Ajay Dayal of his team showed excellent class of Badminton with his variety of strokes, won all the 5 (five) team matches without dropping even a single game and this helped his team win the coveted title at All India Hyderabad Masters Badminton League held from September 21 to 23.  

Joseph was also adjudged the best Player of the League.  

A passionate Badminton Player, he is well known for his deceptive play and has been representing the state for so many years now. Despite being 35 years of age, he is still representing the state in the Zonal and National Championships.  

Joseph appreciated the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) for bringing a foreign coach to train the players for the upcoming North East Open to be held in Dimapur from October 10-13, 2018.  

He was also of the opinion that individuals with resources, who also have an inclination towards and passion for the sport should come together and do something to promote the sport.  

“In Nagaland, sponsorships by individuals is less heard of. We need more patrons for the game,” he said.  

Meanwhile, Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA) congratulated Joseph for his recent success.
