Journalism for social action

Dimapur, Oct 9 (MExN): With the conviction that pen is still mightier than the sword, a five-day intensive course on Journalism for Social Action got underway at Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, on 9 October, for the 27 outgoing students of the college. The program was animated by Fr. Tarcisius Toppo, Director of Don Bosco Communications, Dimapur.

“The aim of the college is to build good citizens who are committed to the issues and concerns of the society to build a better society and print media is an effective means to give voice to the voiceless,’ said Fr. Nicholas Guangdiat, Principal, while inaugurating the programme.

The course will delve into all matters of journalism, especially print journalism in the coming days four days. The students will be trained and given hands-on experience and skills on how to write the lead, headline, techniques of interviewing, making the story, structuring the story, finding information and capturing spoken words, writing feature stories, writing editorial, writing news stories and journalism ethics.

It is to be noted that it is an annual event organized by the college, to make the students aware of the impact of the media in the society and how media can be an effective instrument to bring about reform and development in the society.
