Longleng, September 3 (MExN): Kisan Mela on Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) cum exhibition of Farmers’ Award was held on September 3 at PBCA Convention hall, Longleng with SDO (Civil), Longleng D. Robin as the chief guest.
A DIPR report stated that addressing the farmers, the SDO Civil Longleng, D. Robin lauded the KVK and ATMA, Longleng for jointly organizing the programme and providing technical aspects on water conservation to the farmers of the district. He was hopeful that the scheme will be successful and fruitful for the people of Longleng.
Asserting that Jal Shakti Abhiya (JAL) is an initiative of the Prime Minister of India and Longleng district was fortunate to be selected on priority among the many districts of Nagaland under the JSA program. To ensure proper implementation of JSA scheme in the district he said the central team has been constantly visiting Longleng district holding various program at different levels including field visits and at the same time the line departments have been busy with the JSA program with dedication ever since the program was launched in the district.
Robin also pointed out that Longleng is facing acute water scarcity due to lack of proper conservation of water system in the district. He therefore, called upon the gathering farmers to work as a team with the line departments and extend all cooperation and support for effective implementation of JSA programme to eradicate the water scarcity problems from the district. He also encouraged the farmers to produce more organic local products to boost rural economy and for healthy consumption and benefit.
The special guests, Minga Sherpa, Assistant Secretary to Government of India and Dharam Raj, Assistant Secretary to Government of India also spoke and encouraged the farmers.
Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the Farmers Exhibition followed by welcome address by Dr. K.L.Meena, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK, Longleng. The presentation was given by the District Environment Forest & Climate Change Department Longleng, Land Resources Department and KVK Longleng.
The highlights of the programme were feedback by the progressive farmers and Farmers’ Award by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Longleng. The Chief Guest and Special Guests also gave away the farmers’ award to the awardees Pangnyei Phom of Pongo village, L. Sungsang Phom of Alayong village and M. Wanmei Phom of Tangha village.
