JSUN urges school department to review ‘rationalisation’ order

Jalukie, April 1 (MExN): The Jalukie Students Union Nagaland has said that the recent transfer of teachers under the Department of School Education’s ‘rationalisation’ exercise is a ‘hard blow to the student community’ in the Jalukie valley.

In a press release on Friday, the Union stated that it had recently sought the intervention of the Department to upgrade certain schools and accommodate more teachers in order to fulfil gaps in the students-teacher ratio. The same letter is under process for approval and forwarded by the Peren DPDB, it said.

The Union pointed out that all the government run schools in the Jalukie jurisdiction are ‘exceedingly enrolled’ due to the economic backwardness of the area, while underscoring that Jalukie serves as an epicenter of education for several villages in the area. As such, it said that the recent order of the Department which transferred out several teachers from the Government Higher Secondary School Jalukie; Government Middle School (GMS) Old Jalukie (Lower); and the GMS Jalukie Sector B, without any relievers of the same educational background was “too unfair and cannot be substantiated.”

It said that the Department “is acting just in the opposite direction which will ultimately mean to demoralize the education system.”

Towards this, the Union urged Department to review the rationalisation discrepancies with all fairness and deliver equal treatment and justice by deputing teachers from downgraded school to overcrowded schools in order relieve the load of the teachers. It also requested all the affected teachers “not to take the matter hastily” while asking the concerned Heads of Schools to refrain from issue of release order until an amicable solution is arrived at.
