Jalukie, September 11 (MExN): As per the Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) declaration of September 10, 2017 as ‘Clean Election Sunday’, the Jakha Town Baptist Church observed the day with Kezhokhoto Savi, President NVCO as the speaker.
Kezhokhoto Savi highlighted the success stories of clean election including South Korea, Taiwan, Kenya and Mizoram. He also highlighted the ‘18 Points Agreement’ made on June 22, 2017 by the NBCC with six different political parties in Nagaland.
Savi said that the ABCC initiative of declaring ‘Clean Election Sunday’ is with great concern and said that the root cause of corruption is corrupt election.
Savi said that time has come for every citizen to realise that one’s vote decides the fate of five years and beyond. It is important to vote for a candidate who has genuine concern for public, honest, qualified, competent, bearing strong moral responsibility ready to sacrifice on moral ground and a candidate of having integrity, etc.
“We need a legislator who is people friendly and ready to sacrifice for corrupt-free, who is ready not to deduct commission such as party fund or secretary/minister commission from developmental funds, works against corruption not only in words but in deeds such as setting up of Lokayukta, etc,” the Savi added.
“We can bring a corrupt-free government in this democratic system of government but this is possible only when the conduct of election is ‘Clean’ and the best opportunity would be the forth coming State General Assembly Election,” Savi concluded. Earlier, Pastor of Jakha Town Baptist Church Bise Sophie read out the letter of ABCC and specifically mentioned the various prayer points followed by mass spoken prayer.
