Pfutsero, August 30 (MExN): Jubal Centre for Music and Arts in Pfutsero was launched here on August 30. The launching programme was held at the TT Stadium, Pfutsero, with Theja Meru, advisor of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), as the guest speaker.

Speaking at the event, a press release stated that Theja Meru acknowledged God for the gift of music while recognizing the town as having inspired Methanielie Jutakhrie’s hit song “Pfütsero”. Theja Meru also honoured the director of the institute, Khrowutso Letro for his children’s music ministry, for selflessly and relentlessly training talented kids from more than 10 villages in the district, eventually training hundreds of kids within a span of a couple years.

Meru encouraged the talented youths of the district to take advantage of the activities of TaFMA, highlighting the various activities like the district wise Open House, the upcoming rock contest, the Nagaland Choir Olympics, etc. He stressed on the abundance of talent in the state, and termed music as the soft power of Nagaland, and how his department has been working towards uplifting and promoting every talent in the state.

The centre is the brainchild of four young dynamic musicians- Khrowutso Letro (Director), Wekhro-ü Thele (Administrator), Wepu Puro (Secretary) and Mesezü Venuh (Co-Ordinator). They all have background in music and two of them are members of the Nagaland Chamber Choir.

The Centre aims to develop the highest quality of musical knowledge; to enhance students’ creativity through learning music; develop students’ capabilities in all aspects of discipline; develop students’ musical literacy and musical sense through activities; equip and empower every student by identifying their musical potentials; engage in regular choir practice to perform in church, social and musical events; and focus on promoting and preserving the indigenous culture, traditions, and arts through various research activities.

The centre is affiliated to the London College of Music (LCM) and Rock School of Music, and currently offers courses in music theory, vocals, piano, guitar, drums, violin, and bobi/tati, including dance.

Earlier, the Centre was dedicated by Rev Dr Neingupe Chiero, Sr Pastor, Pfutsero Town Baptist Church.  Dr. Diana Patton, SDO(C), Pfutsero gave the greetings message, while acclaimed trio from the region, Colored Keys, also gave a special appearance with their original number.
