Kacharis concerned over NC Hills violence

Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): Concerned over the unabated violence in NC Hills of Assam, the Kachari Tribal Council-Nagaland (KTCN) today strongly appealed for peace and tranquility in the troubled region of Assam.

“We are extremely pained and dejected the way violence and terror in the most barbaric forms such as killings, burning of villages, flaring up communal hatred, creating terror etc have been let loose by some senseless miscreants in the NC Hills district of Assam with the local district administration remaining mute spectators,” stated a press release received here from the KTCN vice president, Rajkumar Pira mech and general secretary Bill Mech.

It asserted that both the central and state (Assam) governments  have so far “shamefully” failed to do much or are rather reluctant to intervene in the situation and provide security to the people and bring normalcy in the region.

“We, the Kacharis of Nagaland are in a shock of disbelief how could a state where the Prime Minister of India represents could remain silent when scores of people have been killed and rendered homeless during the past three months and is, going on till date,” the KTCN stated.

In this regard, the KTCN, while out-rightly condemned the senseless killings of innocent public and burning of houses belonging to innocent people irrespective of community they belong, appealed the concern apex organizations especially the Jadikhe Naiso Hsom (JHN) and Zeme Council, the apex body of Dimasa and Zeme communities to leave no stone unturned to find measures for complete stoppage to the ongoing atrocities in the NC Hills through mutual trust and negotiations.

It asserted that the handful of armed miscreants who have no public endorsements on their issues should not be allowed to flare up communal enmity between the Dimasa and the Zeme, who have been living as good neighbors since time immemorial, since both these communities share equal historical right as well as birthright to co-exist in the region as they were the original settlers of the region as the history indicates. The KTCN asserted that it shall lend support to any organization in their effort to bring peace and normalcy in the region in whatever way they can.
