KDCVU against tax on developmental activities

Kiphire, April 9 (MExN): The Kiphire District Commercial Vehicle Union (KDCVU) on Friday voiced strong support for the joint decision taken by the United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP), Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) and Eastern Sumi Hoho (ESH) urging different Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to abstain from imposing taxation against developmental activities in Kiphire Aspirational District.

It also affirmed its support to the three apex tribal bodies of Kiphire in their endeavor to stop all forms of illegal taxation on vehicles ferrying essential commodities from Dimapur and other cities to Kiphire.

Such effort is expected to pave the way for disciplining wayward individuals whose action has resulted in harassment and untold miseries to drivers and owners of the vehicle in the past, the Union stated.

Hiring charges reduced
The KDCVU appreciated measures taken by various NPGs within Kiphire district to refrain from collecting money from commercial vehicles in recent times.

This move has resulted in the reduction of hiring charges of commercial vehicles ferrying essential commodities from Dimapur by about Rs 1800, it stated.

However, the menace of illegal collection of money is still in practice at certain specific towns/villages along the National Highways and State Highways heading to Kiphire, where the truck drivers and handyman have to bear the ordeal, it added.

In this regard, the Union urged the NPGs to discipline and penalize defiant cadres in order to curb the menace which is eroding the society and affecting the common people.

Rampant illegal collection of money results in economic backwardness and inflations of prices which eventually affects the general public of Kiphire district, which is located far away from most commercial towns and cities, it added. The Union urged all the stakeholders and the general public not to remain silent and pay the inflated price but to speak out for change.
