DIMAPUR OCT 18 (MExN): The Kiphire District Sumi Students’ Union (KDSSU) has appealed to Sangtam community of Seyochung village to respect the rights of Sumis. The Union has urged the concerned to refrain from using such intimidating orders to avoid misunderstanding between two brothers.
The Union has taken a serious note of the prohibition order that was served to Sumi community from restraining to collect firewood & water in their (Sumi) land. “Again on July 1, Seyochung village Council had served a warning notice to sumi community stating that if any incident or dead arises any where to Seyochung village Sangtam citizens, the entire blame & responsible shall be borne by Sumis” stated KDSSU President, A.N Chophi who also added “These episodes were brought to the notice of the District Administration following which the intervention of the District Administration through an order JUD4/2002-03/55/6 dated Seyochung 18th July 2006, The village Council relaxed to collect firewood & to fetch water”
“However to our dismay in violation of the Directives issued by the Dist. Administration, the Village again on September10, 2006 passed a prohibition order against clearing jungles in our own field for cultivation” The Union felt that in order to respect each others rights, they support GB/Chairman of Seyochung village, Shivito Sumi who had given a release on Oct 15 in a local daily for inviting the response of Sangtam for a joint meeting to hammer out the differences to maintain peace and harmony between two tribes.
