To discuss problems related to poor mobile phone network connectivity in the region, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has assured to convene a meeting soon with the service providers.

“The Executive Committee (EC) will call a meeting with all the mobile companies to discuss the problems faced by the people due to poor network connectivity,” KHADC Chief Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne said on Wednesday while replying to a motion in the House.

He said the council will also seek clarification on the non-functioning of the mobile phone towers which are set up in rural areas for a very long time now. “Many of the mobile phone towers are not working and the network connectivity in rural areas is very poor,” Chyne said.

Earlier the Congress MDC from Mylliem, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh also suggested to the EC on the need to call for a meeting with the BSNL authority requesting them to provide optic fibre connectivity in the region and the state as a whole.

He said this is needed keeping in view the importance of online learning and online shopping due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
