GUWAHATI, JANUARY 7 (MExN): A host of supermodels from all over the North East walked the ramp in Guwahati at the State Level Khadi Gramodyog Exhibition on January 6 evening, draped in exquisite Khadi creations. Models walked the ramp wearing traditional Assam Silk, Muga, and Benarasi Silk etc., and mesmerized the art-loving audience on the occasion. Designed and choreographed by renowned fashion guru of North East Prasantt Ghosh (who is involved in doing the Khadi design and fashion show for more than a decade) along with Moonme Baruah and Kanchan Sabarwal, the unique fashion show covered all aspects of Khadi in an exquisite and splendid way. The Khadi Fashion Parade was inaugurated by A.P. Modak, State Director KVIC, Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion, Modak said that Khadi is very comfortable for all occasions and is chosen by all sections of people nowadays. Organised by Uttar Purvanchal Khadi Gramodyog Maha Sangha, the State Level Khadi Gramodyog Exhibition at Rukmininagar Bihu Field, Housing complex, Survey, Guwahati has been going on from December 28 to January 11. Among the top models in action in the show were Indrani Sarma, Divya Rasmi Devi, Punam Das, Jia Sarma, Tina Das, Puja Das, Suvam Das, Chandan Das and Kripesh. A talented singer Abhijit Ghosh and a dance group also performed in between the rounds. The whole show was managed by one of the leading event management groups of the North East KREATIVE PEOPLE. Fashion designer Prasantt Ghosh said: “Whenever I design and use khadi as my fabric, I have kept both the style and the intrinsic properties of the fabric in mind varied weights and counts produce richness in khadi. The treatment of this textural richness is the core of my collection, which relies on the minimal look and aesthetics of handmade fabrics. I have essentially used two types of Khadi.” Beautiful khadi products from all over the country are on display in the fair. There are a wealth of sarees, balucharis from West Bengal, sambalpuris from Orissa and pochampuris from Andhra Pradesh. The number of stalls is around 50. Traditional medicine stalls from Maharashtra and cane and bamboo furniture of world class from Assam are also on display in the fair. The whole exhibition is sponsored by Khadi and Village industries Commission (Ministry of MSME, Govt of India), Guwahati.
