Khaghaboto Government High School, Niuland has completed 50 years. The school commemorated the golden jubilee together with the Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi at a function organised at the school premises on October 19. According to a teacher of the school, it is the only high school in the Khaghaboto area serving some 17 villages. It has an enrolment of 111 students for the year 2023 and is headed by an Assistant Headmistress alongwith 16 teachers and 7 non-teaching employees.

Speaking at the programme, Minister Zhimomi, while laying emphasis on academics, said that the school should also accord priority to essential facilities for the students. Pledging his support to help improve and upgrade the school’s infrastructure, he urged the school management to prioritize essential needs such as drinking water facility and washrooms.
On academics, he emphasised the significance of giving impetus to science and technical subjects, over and above the humanities. According to him, the most successful students come primarily come from science and technical backgrounds and students in Nagaland should focus to excel in technical subjects.

He also expressed his concern about the shortage of Science and Maths teachers in the state and emphasized the need to prioritize these subjects. He further encouraged both teachers and parents to play a role in guiding students to choose the right subjects for their careers, underscoring that building a better future for the next generation is a shared responsibility.
Zhimomi commended the school’s administrators, both the past and the present, and paid tribute to the pioneers who had the vision to provide quality education. He expressed hope that the school management would continue to strive for excellence, producing accomplished students in all fields of education.
