Khukhu- Festival for girls

Kohima, August 16 (MExN): The Khukhu festival, a festival for girls was celebrated on August 14 at Porba Village with Daisy Mezhur, Secretary, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, Mission Director, State Resource Centre for Women as a special guest and Vechisalu Nukhu, President, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society as guest of honour organised by Porba Women Society.  

A souvenir was also released by Vechisalu Nukhu, President, CWWS. She congratulated the Porbami for preserving and upholding the traditional values by showing love and respect to the girls.  

Shekhozo Thuluo, Village Council Chairman, Porba Village, shared the significant of Khukhu Festival which is a special day for girls when the parents, near and dear one and their kits and kin’s would offer a special and nutritious food to girls to make a bound of the family stronger. On this very special day, girls would eat, play and make merry the whole day.  

A press release stated that the highlight of the programme included folk tune presented by Basapuh khel, Indigenous duet by Shenietalu and Mulusalu. Traditional games like ‘Saco Müce’ and ‘Tacho züh’ were presented by Ceipi and Kusomi Khel.
