Kidnapping steadily spreading across Nagaland, asserts CNCCI

Demands police to reveal identities of those involved in recent KCCI incident

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) observed today that the 'kidnapping cancer,' which was primarily concentrated in the state's commercial hub of Dimapur, is steadily spreading across Nagaland and has even reached the political capital Kohima.

This is a grave indication of law enforcing agencies “caught napping,” it maintained.

Accordingly, in a press release, the Confederation reminded the State Government that incident such as kidnapping from Kohima on the eve of Hornbill Festival will send wrong message across the globe and will taint its image.

The government not to sleep over the safety of the business community and public, it added.

Meanwhile, it appreciated the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for leaving “no stone unturned" to ensure the release of a businessman from Kohima, who was reportedly kidnapped from Dimapur.

However, the CNCCI directed the KCCI to pursue all legal means to ensure that those “businessmen involved in taking the matter to Naga Political Group (NPG) resulting in kidnapping of Anil Choudhary be given exemplary punishment.”

“Few corrupt and unethical businessmen bring all the disgrace to the business community and strengthening the hands of anti social element,” it alleged.

While stating that it would not shy away from appreciating the Kohima and Dimapur police for ensuring the safe release of the victim, the Confederation demanded that the police should not shield anybody but immediately put in the public domain the name of NPG and kidnappers involved for the Naga public to judge.

Further, it wondered over the need for the NPG to involve in a petty financial matter between individuals doing business, resorting to the extent of kidnapping.

The CNCCI further condemned the kidnapping as a disgrace to Naga National Movement which once stood with high moral authority and standard.

The NPGs should also rein and ensure that their cadres do not take undue advantage in the name of Naga National Movement for personal gains, it added.
