Kohima, May 5 (MExN): The Kikruma Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed strong solidarity and support for the seven-day ultimatum issued by the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), demanding urgent action on the severely deteriorated condition of the Kohima–Jessami Road (Package 2).
In a letter addressed to the Executive Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Regional Office Kohima, the KSU extended its full endorsement of the CSU’s representation dated May 2.
Highlighting the road’s critical importance—particularly to villages such as Kikruma that are most directly affected—the KSU condemned what it termed the ongoing neglect by both NHIDCL and EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infrastructure Project Pvt. Ltd.
The union echoed the CSU’s charges of “gross negligence and failure” to ensure the timely development and maintenance of the road project.
“We firmly believe that the demands put forth by the Chakhesang Students' Union are just, necessary, and reflect the urgent need for immediate intervention,” the KSU stated, adding that it stands united in demanding swift repair and maintenance work without further delay.
Calling on NHIDCL to take urgent cognisance of the situation, the KSU reiterated its commitment to cooperate in any way possible to facilitate timely action for restoring safe and reliable infrastructure in the region.
On May 2, the CSU issued a seven-day ultimatum to NHIDCL, calling for immediate action to address critical concerns. These include filling potholes, clearing road blockages, ensuring round-the-clock maintenance, constructing proper drainage, and implementing precautionary measures to mitigate rockfalls and landslide
