Kiphire police take measures to ensure free and peaceful election

Kiphire, February 15 (MExN): Ahead of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly election 2023 scheduled on February 27, Kiphire police said that it is taking various initiatives towards ensuring a free, fair and peaceful election in the district. 

‘Breach of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by any political parties, candidates or individuals is being closely monitored and appropriate legal action will be taken against any individual or party violating the MCC,’ Addl SP of Police & PRO, DEF Kiphire affirmed in an update. 

It stated that various Sector Commanders from Police Department are also taking tours of their respective Sector (cluster of polling stations), meeting the general public and elders and “are involved in confidence building measures to ensure smooth and peaceful election.”

Earlier, on February 12, SP Kiphire, K Swarnambika, IPS issued a circular to all the political parties and candidates in the district to get prior NOC from the concerned Police Station before conducting any public or street meeting, rally, procession in the district. Police Clearance Certificate is required for security reasons, as part of election procedure. 

SP Kiphire also issued a directive to all the police officers/personnel in Kiphire district that being a Government servant; they are strictly prohibited from involving in any political activities, as it is punishable under Section 129,134 & 134 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, it stated. 

Meanwhile, Kiphire Police has seized Rs 75,000 worth illegal liquor in one of the raids conducted in Kiphire town and a case has been registered in this connection.
