Kishore Jeedung’s family reaffirms raid allegation

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): In a rebuttal to the statement of Assam Rifles refuting allegations of raid at the residence of Kishore Jeedung, Member of Steering Committee, NSCN (IM), Jeedung’s family has reiterated their allegation with audio recording of the incident released to the media.

The ‘Dimasa Kamcha’ which was allegedly torn by the AR personnel was also provided to the media.

Maiham Jeedung, daughter of Kishore Jeedung, in a statement said the family could not record the whole incident as their phones were “snatched (by the Assam Rifles) and returned only while leaving.”

In the audio recording, the statement said, “Assam Rifles can be heard pressurizing my brother to open the main door...Another personnel can be heard saying if he does not co-operate than they will have to forcefully break open the door.”

It further said, “They (AR personnel) can also be heard slapping my father while my father says he will open the door but he needs to inform his superiors first.”

“Is this how they conduct themselves in a dignified manner?” Maiham questioned, adding “My father signed the NOC under gun-point. What else was he supposed to do?”

About the 8-year-old girl's statement, she alleged that the AR personnel took her around the compound asking where arms were stored. In this regard, the statement questioned, “Why would she lie? What benefits will she get by lying against them?”

Reacting to the AR’s claim that they came to search the house, the statement further wondered, “Why couldn’t they come in broad daylight? Why didn’t they inform the village elders?”

“Assam Rifles need to focus on their motto and stop harassing the innocent while the guilty scoot around freely in broad daylight,” it added.

Corrigendum

The Morung Express had inadvertently mentioned Maiham Jeedung as son of Kishore Jeedung in her earlier statement published on August 11. The inadvertent error is sincerely regretted.
