KLC holds session on Consumer Protection Act, 2019

Kohima, February 18 (MExN): The Kohima Law College (KLC) conducted one day special session on Consumer Protection Act, 2019 for the LL.B 1st semester with Assistant Professor, Kezhokhoto Savi as resource person on February 17.

KLC Media Cell in a press release stated that Savi who is also President of Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) in his presentation said that the Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has recently submitted a representation to Nagaland University (NU) to urgently come out with the new syllabus on the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 realising that the three law colleges under NU are “confused as the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is no more applicable.” He said that the NVCO has already apprised the State Government to immediately implement the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. 

He stated that awareness is still lacking in the state as we find several consumers suffers from several defects of goods and deficiency in services to cite an incident where the consumers were randomly buying expiry goods and availing deficient services including excessive charges in prices of goods and services. Savi asked the consumer to ‘wake up’ and realise that it is every one’s responsibility to know about one’s consumer rights.
