Kohima, August 10 (MExN): Kohima Law College (KLC) conducted ‘Know Your Rights and Entitlement-cum-observance of International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples 2018’ at Japfü Christian College on August 9.
The resource persons on ‘Know Your Rights & Entitlement,’ Sepikyu J Sangtam, Sezulo-u Losou, Temsunungsang Aier, Limkhushi Thongliu and Yangrothung Lotha covered topics such as Consumer Rights, Environment, Food Safety & Standard Act 2006, Street Vendors Act 2014, Public Services delivery system, Lokayukta, State Consumer helpline Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701, Human Rights & National Food Security Act 2013.
In the observance of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, Kezhokhoto Savi, Professor, KLC spoke on the importance of recognition and protection of the rights of indigenous peoples and the provision of Article 371A of Indian Constitution that protects the Naga indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland as indigenous people. He also spoke on the new legislation of ‘Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014 to create conducive atmosphere for street vendors to do their business in dignity and provide livelihood protection to street vendors across the country.
