KLLRU 'demands' foothill road

KOHIMA, MAY 21 (MExN): The Kohima Lotha Lower Range Union has put up a strong demand to the Nagaland state government and Minister for Roads & Bridges in particular for time bound construction of road connecting five districts of Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon.

A press note by the President and the General Secretary of the KLLRU stated that necessity of the road is “urgent and immense.” It added, “It is not just a road to commute nor an economic conduit, but more for the safety and security of the precious lives of all sons and daughters of our land.”

KLLRU Chairman, Chumdemo Kikon and General Secretary Liban Patton stated that “on August 2012, an elected public leader made a public statement that all formalities were done for a start off, but no sign of works is being sighted till date and for which the Union seeks clarification from the relevant department.”

The Union stated that if the state government could construct a six kilometer stretch of road in a year for the last 50 years, this security road of about 300 km would have been commissioned to the people now.

It added that “Various discriminations, harassments and traumas faced by Naga travelers through Assam” have been a hindrance for the Naga people and added that only a few cases have come to light.

The KLLRU went on to say that people of the aforementioned districts could no longer “live dependent on Assam and at the mercy of the public in other states.” Hence the Union has appealed to all public leaders, NGOs, student’s bodies, Churches, Hohos, Civil organizations and the “elite general public” to support the cause.

The union also cautioned the government that if nothing positive is sighted early from the government, the union would be “compelled to various stringent agitations and protests for which it should not be held responsible.”
