Kma selected as solar city

Kohima, June 29 (DIPR): A seminar on New & Renewable Energy was held at the Zonal Council Hall, Kohima on June 29, jointly organized by the Department of New & Renewable Energy, Nagaland in collaboration with M/s Toiwa Renewable Energy and Anu Solar Power, Bangalore.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, MLA & Advisor, New & Renewable Energy, Science & Technology and Art & Culture, Deo Nukhu mentioned that Kohima has been selected as solar city by the Ministry. Data collection has been completed and preparation of Master Plan is underway. Nukhu lauded the initiative of the department of NRE in providing a platform where awareness can be created for the public as well as government functionaries. He highlighted some of the important progress being implemented by NRE department including the National Manure Management and Biogas Development, Special Area Demonstration Programme, Solar Voltaic Programme, Biomass Gasifier Project, Remote Village Electrification Programme, besides many others. He said that the programmes under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, GOI were implemented earlier through the erstwhile Non-Conventional Energy Cell under the Rural Development Department and Small Hydro Programme under Power Department. He said that Nagaland is one of the first states in the country to have initiated for a separate department on New and Renewable Energy.

Deo Nukhu said that this is a new area as far as the state is concerned and expressed optimism that the prospects would be achieved. He stated that energy sources like solar energy are given freely by nature and we should make all efforts to tap this energy source as it is much safer to human health and eco-friendly.  He urged the use of solar heaters for private residences, public institutions like hospitals, hotels etc citing the example of Bangalore city where people are extensively using rooftop installations of solar panels. 

The keynote address was delivered by the Managing Director Anu Solar Power Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore, Er. T.A. Georgekutty who was also the resource person in the seminar. He said that the company is 30 year old firm, which has been supplying solar power energy all over the country. Speaking on behalf of newly registered M/S Toiwa Renewable Energy Inc. Johny Rengma urged the media in Nagaland to create awareness about renewable energy sources. He also informed that they are the distributors and dealers of the Anu Solar Power, Bangalore for Nagaland.
