Kohima district prepares to implement plastic ban

Kohima, August 28 (MExN): The District Task Force on restricting use of plastics held its committee meeting at Deputy Commissioner Office’s Chamber on August 28.


The meeting was held to work out the strategy and action plan for the implementation of the Government’s directive on banning of plastic with effect from October 1, 2019 within the district and the State as a whole, stated a DIPR report. 


Deputy Commissioner Kohima & Chairman DTF, Gregory Thejawelie briefing the members reiterated on the Government’s directive and guidelines on banning of Plastic and impressed upon the members on how best the district can implement the movement successfully. 


The DC Kohima said that this movement was not only in Nagaland but all over India and as Kohima being the image of the State, the target is to implement the movement successfully in the district, which requires a joint efforts of all the stakeholders. He therefore said that the committee besides the district administration and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has roped in the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Angami Mechü Krotho (AMK), Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) and Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) in order to work effectively and to strictly enforce the movement within the district. In this regard, he also requested his administrative officers to constitute a committee in their respective sub divisional level to address the issue.


In the meeting, it was decided to have sensitization programme on the issue at different levels, platforms within this one month time left before the enforcement where DC requested all his administrative officers in the sub-divisional level, the stakeholders to take it more seriously and create awareness and propagate the message to every individual in their respective areas.


In the meeting, Office Secretary KMC, Zakie Kiso highlighted their activities and initiatives carried out so far, in this regard AMK President, Kevinourheno Seyie; KCCI President, Medozhatuo Rutsa and KVYO President, Dzuvinguzo Mepfhuo also shared their views, suggestions and initiatives being carried out in their respective areas and also assured to extend all possible help and support towards this movement to make it a reality.
