Kohima, January 15 (MExN): An interaction and sensitisation programme on social health responsibility was held on January 15 at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Kohima.

According to a report from the state DIPR, the programme was held in association with the All Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP).

Chairing the programme, Kohima DC Gregory Thejawelie said that COVID Hospitals, particularly the NHAK, are prepared with sufficient required items including oxygen and workforce arrangement. Depending on the requirement, the number of beds in ICU as well as in all the ward rooms would be increased, he said.

DC Thejawelie said that the Meriema COVID Care Hospital and Quarantine Speciality at K Badze have also been prepared and equipped with all the required items and facilities. He also requested all the representatives from the AKMWP to take up the enforcement of wearing masks in their respective wards, the DIPR report stated.

On the medical aspect, Kohima Chief Medical Officer Dr Vezokholu Theyo said that the programme’s objective is to protect the co-morbid group of people from COVID death. She informed that health camps will be organised in all the urban colonies for screening non-communicable diseases, co-morbid diseases as well as mapping of the co-morbid  disease prevalence in the community within one month in anticipation of the third wave that is projected to affect persons with co-morbid diseases and unvaccinated. Targeted groups were 30 years and above, pregnant women and those less than 30 years but have family history, Dr Theyo said.

She informed that only 50% of people living in urban areas are aware of the status of their blood pressure and blood sugar (diabetes) and as such, medical teams, through the social health responsibility programme, would visit every household for mapping and identification of status in order to provide medical intervention. She also added that once the medical team is done with the mapping, every individual will get free medicines through the National Urban Health Mission.

In this connection, the CMO appealed to all the wards and communities to extend their support in mobilising and organising teams for the house visits. She also asked them to mobilise high-risk groups to attend the health screening and vaccination camps and to assist the medical team as and when need arises.

While stating the action plan for vaccination of people in the 15 to 18 age group, precaution dose for healthcare workers, frontline workers and those above the age of 60 years with co-morbid diseases, Dr Theyo informed that all health centres will be COVID vaccination centres for 15 to 18 years in a phased manner as per the demand. Starting with Kohima Urban, all the health centres including Health and Wellness Centres and Sub-Centres are vaccination sites for 15-18 age group beneficiaries and vaccines for all age groups was well as precautionary doses are offered from Monday to Friday at NHAK, Urban Primary Health Centre Potterlane, and UPHC Seikhazou, the DIPR report stated.
