Kohima: DMHP holds awareness programme on mental health

Kohima, March 18 (MExN): The District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Kohima organised an awareness programme on mental health and mental illness at Japfü Christian College, Kohima on March 18. It was held with the objective of reducing the stigma attached towards mental illnesses through change of attitude and public education, DMHP Kohima stated in a press release. 

Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker spoke on the importance of life skills education and mental health which is a tool of intervention in enhancing skills and capabilities to cope up with the daily demands of life. She also spoke on the importance of coping with stress in a positive way and how to boost our mental health as a student. 

Ketousenuo Phewhuo, Clinical Psychologist talked about how to identify symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders. She highlighted on the fact that cases of depression and anxiety disorders are unfortunately increasing in our community especially in school/college goers. She spoke on the causes of such disorders and its intervention. She stressed on the importance of supporting and guiding one another to seek for professional help at the earliest.
